Eight kilometers from the town of Sortavala, near the Bay of Utility is giving Dr. winter. It is situated on the shore of Cape Taruniemi, which in Finnish means "fabulous Cape." Here in 1909 was built rustic Villa in the Finnish national romantic style for the doctor Gustav Johannes winter. Previously on these rocks was an ancient fortress in the lake Ladoga area.

This place is unique because it combines both history and the severe beauty of Northern nature and the talent of the architect and genius of the gardener. The author of the project works, who was the founder of this style in architecture, famous architect Eliel Saarinen. This building is his best creation in this direction. This building has two floors. In the early 20th century Dr winter was a progressive Sortavala as a surgeon, he was the first to conduct operations on the thyroid tumors in Finland. Thanks to him, was the first in Finland x-ray Department. He also was actively involved in social activities and did a lot for his city.

Dr. winter was fond of garden-Park art and on his initiative was founded the city Park. And near his winter home hosted a unique arboretum. Here was planted many rare species of shrubs, trees, brought from America and China, Japan and the Caucasus. There are cedars, firs, arborvitae - a total of 22 different kinds of coniferous trees and shrubs various species of honeysuckle, acacia, barberry, and others.

This garden represents a single particular world. The house is very loved to visit the Roerich family in the years 1916-1919. This is similar to the portrait of S. N. Roerich. with a dedicatory inscription.

After the death of Gustav winter in 1924, the estate changed owners several times. She was also a health resort, and the club of young seamen, and recreation of the FSB. Since 1993 in the fireplace hall of the cultural center "Balaam" was opened an exhibition dedicated to the Roerich family. Since 2000, thanks to philanthropist-entrepreneur Kogan M. A. in manor restoration works were started. Now it is an architectural monument of regional importance, there is a tourist Park hotel—"Villa winter".

In the halls of the estate arranged the exposition exhibits, which tell about the historical past of these places, about famous people, life, which is associated with this edge. The stands are photographs, everyday objects, found during the restoration work, samples of unique plants of the arboretum. There is a separate exposition of the stones.
