White neo-Gothic castle Orlik with several crenellated towers and walls with occasional Windows resembles an impregnable fortress. It is located near Orlikova reservoir created on the Vltava river. The construction of this reservoir has violated the appearance of the Palace complex, destroying the high walls that serve the protection of the castle. Now Orlik was dangerously close to the river.
Interestingly, for the control of the river, this castle has been erected. He belonged to the Czech crown and served as the residence of the Royal tax collectors. The original fortress was compact and consisted of only one floor. In the XIV century, when the castle was walled, it already included the manor house and the tower, located above the access bridge. With her perfectly visible road, and you can see from afar all guests. At the same time on the territory of the castle there was a small chapel and a hall for hunting.
After the fire in 1508 the castle was restored in the Renaissance style. The last owners Orlik was born Schwarzenberg, who has taken care of its rebuilding in the Gothic revival style. During the Communist regime, the castle was owned by the state, but now he's returned to the rightful owners. In order to recoup the content of such majestic buildings, the castle was opened to the Museum. The Palace interiors presents the richest collection of tableware, books, weapons. Many of the items exhibited in the castle, were collected by the Schwarzenbergs, but there are more ancient artifacts left from the previous owners of the castle.
