The city of Litvinov was not always a large and representative settlement, with a population of about 25 thousand people. Date of its Foundation is unknown, but a big role in his history plays year 1352, when in the annals two villages – Upper Litvinov Litvinov and Lower. When the two are combined and there is a town called Litvinov.
In 1715 Litvinov acquires a patron in the person of Jan Josef Wallenstein, which opens here a factory for the production of fabrics. From this time begins the prosperity Litvinova, which receives city rights. After a hundred years in honor of such an important event was erected in the centre of the obelisk.
Nowadays Litvinov is a large industrial city, which still has tourist facilities, interesting to explore. These include the Baroque Church of St. Michael the Archangel. Its construction was initiated by the Wallenstein family in 1685, and continued for several years. As a result of the Seven years ' war, the Church was almost destroyed. It was restored in 1763 and completely renovated the interior, which is partly preserved to our time. In particular in the Church you can see a wooden bench, made in the Rococo style. Another reconstruction took place in the early twentieth century. Then in the temple there was electricity. In the Church you should pay attention to the big picture, which depicts the assumption of the blessed virgin.
In the Central square Litvinova, you can see two of the town Hall. The old one was created in 1789, and a New one was built quite recently – in the 1930-ies. In the center of the square you can see a Marian column erected in the Baroque style, crowned by the Holy Trinity.
