The Church of Santa Clara is one of the centrally located churches in Stockholm and the second highest in Scandinavia (the height of the tower is 116 meters).

In 1527 the monastery that stood on the site of the Church of St. Clara, was demolished by order of Gustav Vasa, managed to save only a diptych from the interior of the Church. The present Church building was built in the 1500's, during the reign of king Johan III, Dutch architect Hendrik van Juvenem, and since then, many architects were involved in the design and construction of the Church, including Willem Bout, Goran Joshua Edelcrantz, Carl Fredrik, Edelcrantz, Carl Harleman and later, from 1963 to 1965, Arthur von Somalense.

The bell tower of the Church. Clara was opened on 9 September 1965 and has 35 bronze bells. The largest bell weighs 1700 kg, and the weight of the smallest - only 20 kg. Total weight of all the bells is 8600 kg. Modern clock tower and electric have been installed by the company Westerstrand & Sons during the restoration in the 1960-ies.

The cemetery around the Church of St. Clara was built in the 1600's, and externally it has retained its original appearance, being surrounded by modern buildings. The cemetery is surrounded by an iron fence, are the graves of such well-known public and cultural figures of Sweden, Carl Michael, Balmain, Anna-Maria Lenngren, Carl Gustaf AF Leopold, Gustav Akerhielm and Anna Cristina Varg. In the Church of St. Clara is also located in the crypt, built in the 1700s.

Today the Church of St. Clara is also one of the centers of charitable activities in Stockholm. It is about providing food and clothing to the homeless and refugees, conducting psychological interviews with drug addicts and prostitutes, as well as overseeing hospitals and prisons.
