Park of the centenary of the founding of Australia – a huge public Park, spread over 220 hectares in the Eastern part of Sydney 4 km from the Central business district. Incidentally, the same name is a small suburb of Sydney, bordering the Park.
The planning of the Park began in 1886, however, not all plans were implemented – for example, were never built a Museum and the building of the party congresses. However, in January 1888, the Park was inaugurated in honor of the centennial anniversary since the founding of the first European settlement in Australia. The then Governor-General Lord Hopetoun dedicated the Park to all residents of New South Wales".
Once on the Park lands grazed cattle, and located South of the ponds were the main source of fresh water for Sydney from 1830 to 1880 years. Today it is one of the largest recreational areas of the city, which is adjoined other parks Moore Park and Royal Park.
An important attraction of the Park is the Monument of the Federation, consisting of Plates of the Commonwealth (1901) and the Pavilion of the Federation (1988), " it was here on 1 January 1901, it was officially announced the establishment of the Australian Commonwealth. The Federation pavilion was erected next to the Plate of the Commonwealth in the year of the Bicentennial of Australia. And the Plate of the Commonwealth, made of Sandstone, is almost the only thing left from the original plaster of the pavilion, which was destroyed by time.
Through the centenary Park is a road Grand drive, which in 2000 was part of the marathon race at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Today here ride bicycles and roller skates, and sometimes you can see, and the riders on horses.
In the adjacent Park and residential area bearing the same name, houses built in the late 19th and early 20th century and preserved its original appearance. Some of them are listed in the National Heritage list is Australia.
