In the heart of Sydney, the imposing Sandstone building - Sydney town Hall. Directly opposite this city's landmark is the Queen Victoria Building, and close to Cathedral of Saint. Andrew. The location between the busy subway station, town Hall and business center of the city made the town Hall is a popular meeting place for the townspeople.

Sydney town Hall was built in 1880, on the site of the old cemetery. Building in postauthoricon style has been described as "richly decorated structure with a Central tower and peculiar roof. Today it remains the only in Sydney non-religious building, which has kept the original interior and since its construction performs the same function – it houses the Chamber of the City Council and the administration of mayor of Sydney. In the main hall – Centennial Hall – is the world's largest mechanical organ, built in 1886-1889 and installed in 1890. Before the opening of the Sydney Opera house is located in the town Hall the town's main concert hall, which hosted a variety of events.

Long steps leading to the town Hall, are a popular meeting place for the residents of Sydney. However, recently the city administration has taken a number of measures that restrict the collection at these levels during the day and also put a night guard due to the increasing cases of attacks and damage city property with graffiti.

Today Sydney town Hall listed as a National Heritage of Australia.
