Ancient sundial in the city of Taganrog is a historical and architectural monument, located at the top of the Stone (Depaldovsky) stair, outside of Greece. The clock was built in 1833 during the reign of the sixth Governor - Baron, O. R. Frank, who faithfully served the city from 1832 to 1844
The main element of the Taganrog sundial was "gnomon", which in Greek means "pointer shadow". Maybe that's why they were erected on Greek street.
Vintage solar watch is unusual dial, printed on 300-pound marble slab, mounted on an octagonal stone pillar. This watch has been repeatedly restored, in which was inserted a fragment of marble and changed the gnomon, with the result that he has a technologically modern look.
Around the perimeter of the marble dial is encircled by a metal band with a black sundial, established in 1833, the Watch horizontal. In this watch the gnomon inclined to the horizon at an angle equal to the latitude of the installation site of delivery and sent to the North pole. But in 1972, after another restoration hours was installed gnomon designed for greater latitude, so the clock readings are inaccurate.
In 2006-2007 underwent another restoration Taganrog hours of sunshine. After restoration work was carried out revealed another error. The gnomon had to grow from the middle of the dial line and the point of intersection of the plane of the gnomon, which connects hour markers 6 and 18 hours. But, the gnomon somehow shifted, and the clock displays the correct time, it should be slightly shifted.
Taganrog sundials are the oldest operating hours in the country, more than 170 years.
