Single-nave Church of St. James the Elder was erected during the construction of the city itself, in the years 1360-1370. Fire 1386, which started in an adjoining malt house, destroyed 27 town houses, has not spared the parish Church. In 1417 the actions of the rebels has led to the final destruction of the Church. In the literature of the first half of the XV century referred to the dilapidated Church of St. James, which was in desperate need of renovation. Unfortunately, the citizens had no means to rebuild it, so he gradually destroyed. Only in 40-50-ies of the XV century, the necessary amount was found. The Church was repaired, a little expanded and decorated the facade in Gothic style. It is therefore the Church is presented before us now. Then it was attached high tower, which contains two expertly crafted bells with their names – James and Maria. The bells were cast in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and has been preserved to our days. Listen to their jingle is still going to the townspeople and tourists.
In the XVII century in Baroque style, rebuilt the crypt, sacristy and chapel. In 1737 the Church joined a secret passage with a local castle. In the end of XIX century there appeared a new altar.
In the temple of frescoes, created in the XIII century. They were not injured during the devastating fire. There is also the tomb of zachariae of Hradec, named after the main square of Telc. Closer to the exit you can see the graves of local residents killed during the hostilities of the First world war.
