Theologos is a picturesque mountain village on the Greek island of Thassos. It is located at an altitude of about 200-220 m above sea level, 10 km North of Potos and 55 km South of the capital of the island. This is a very pretty village, which has a rich centuries-old history and is famous for its traditional architecture.

The history of Theologos is rooted in the distant past. Its modern name of the settlement was presumably still in the Byzantine era. Until the beginning of the 20th century Theologos played an important role in political and economic life of the island. During the Turkish (1455-1813) and Egyptian (1813-1902) domination on the island, it housed the government.

In 1979, the Greek government declared Theologos cultural capital and an important historical monument, limiting the construction of new buildings and defining clear criteria and standards for the reconstruction of the magnificent old buildings. Thus managed to preserve the historical and cultural values, as well as the charming atmosphere of traditional villages. Today in Theologos you can see many beautiful old houses covered with slate roofs. Some structures date back to the 16th century.

The main attractions of Theologos is attributed Dimitrios Church (built in 1803) with a magnificent wood-carved altar, which depicts scenes of the old and New Testaments. Also of particular interest is the interesting Ethnographic Museum located in the village centre, this beautifully preserved mansion of the leader of the Greek rebels of Hatzigeorgiou.

Walk through narrow cobbled streets, interesting architecture, acquaintance with culture and traditions, as well as the scenic surroundings of Theologos will bring you lots of fun and excitement. Also worth a visit local taverns, which are renowned for its excellent cuisine.
