Panorama Mesdag is a circular panorama in the Hague, depicting a fishing village of the XIX century by the sea. It bears the name of its Creator, Dutch artist Hendrik Willem Mesdag. Mesdag is one of the greatest Dutch marine painters, who gained recognition during his lifetime. His paintings were a success, he has led various unions of artists. It was he who, as an acknowledged master, gets in 1880 the order of the panoramas for a Belgian company.

The panorama was invented and patented in the XVIII century in the UK, but in the late nineteenth century the fashion for panoramas erupts with renewed vigor in Belgium and France. Several businessmen from Brussels Mesdag bought "sea view of the Hague". For the panorama built a special building – 16-coal rotunda, which in itself is a fine example of industrial architecture. The sizes of the paintings is 14 meters in height and 114, 5 meters long, the diameter of the hall is about 40 meters. On the creation of panoramas employs a team of artists, primarily wife Mesdag and his disciples. Sintia Mesdag van Houten was a talented artist, she was called "lady of the Hague school". When writing panoramas artists used not only their own drawings and sketches, but also pictures, which at the time was technical innovation.

In the center of the room is a platform, surrounded by sand, simulating a sand dune. Imperceptibly the scenery pass into a painting.

Unfortunately, the panorama is not used with the public great success, after a while the Belgian company owner went bankrupt. Mesdag bought from them panorama, considering it one of the most significant of his works. Later was established a special Fund, and the owners were numerous relatives of the artist, his children, grandchildren and cousins. Panorama is a private property of the family.
