Paleokastritsa is a picturesque resort on the island of Corfu, situated 26 km on Northwest from the eponymous capital. Previously Paleokastritsa was an independent municipality of the ionic cores, but since 2011 is the administrative unit of the city of Corfu. Area of Paleokastritsa stretches along the coastal line of the island of Corfu, washed by the Adriatic sea and covers an area of 48, 379 sq. km. as of 2001 Paleokastritsa has a population 4395 in people and is considered the jewel of Corfu. Near Paleokastritsa is the famous island fortress of Angelokastro (one of the most important architectural monuments of the Byzantine era in Greece).

In Paleokastritsa is the monastery of the virgin Mary. The structure that we see today dates from the 16-18 centuries, but the first structure on this site was founded in 1225 and was an ancient fortress. It was destroyed in 1403, but in 1469 restored again. In 1537, the castle was completely destroyed by the Turks, and in 1572, a monastery was built, which survived until our days, part of which was completed in 1722. Today in the building of the monastery is a Museum, which presents the ancient Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons.

In the area of Paleokastritsa you will find a lovely picturesque Bay, educated, rocky headlands, and sandy and pebble beaches with crystal clear water.
