Karystos is a small port town on the South coast of the Greek island of Evia. It is located about 129 km South of the administrative center of the island city Chalkis, near the place where in ancient times was located influential ancient Polis Caritas.

A picturesque town located on the shores of cozy natural Bay, surrounded by majestic mountains. Modern Karystos how we see it today is a relatively young city, built by decree of king Otto, who planned to turn it into the capital of Greece, only in the middle of the 19th century by the famous Bavarian engineer of Bierbach. Today Karystos is a very popular resort with well-developed tourist infrastructure. Local taverns and restaurants are renowned for excellent cuisine and a huge selection of dishes from the freshest seafood.

Among the attractions of Karystos and its environs it is worth noting reconstructed Venetian Bourtzi castle, Dating from the 13th century, the ruins of the Venetian fortress of Castel Rosso (1030), the town hall (late 19th century) and Cultural center Yokaleion, which presents a small collection of sculpture and ceramics of the Hellenistic and Roman eras. Of particular interest are also Orthodox monasteries Taxiarhis, St. George and St. Maurus, the Cavo d Oro, mount Ochi, on the picturesque slopes of which up to now has survived the ancient megalithic structures and ancient marble quarries near the village of Cute.

Active guests can enjoy diving, surfing, fishing, water skiing or mountain Biking, as well as take a fascinating walking tour around the incredibly scenic surroundings. Very popular in Karystos and such entertainment as horse riding.
