Cagayancillo – a small town located in the East of the island of Palawan island of the same name – Cagayancillo. Distance to the provincial capital city of Puerto Princesa - 330 km City island is located almost in the middle of the Sulu sea. According to the census of 2007, there were already about 6, 5 thousand people.

On the island there is no mountain ranges or vast forests. Low hills occupy a very small part of Cagayancillo in the northeast, the rest of the island is represented by the plains.

Cagayancillo known primarily because it is the nearest settlement to the marine national Park Tubbataha, which is located in the same coral reef that attracts thousands of tourists-divers.

Another attraction of Cagayancillo is the Fort is one of the few fortified military installations built during the Spanish colonization and extant. The construction of the Fort began in the late 16th century by father Nicholas Melo and father Alonso Colosa and lasted over hundreds of years. Only in the early 18th century the Fort was completed under the guidance of his father hipólito Casiano. The fortress was made in the shape of a diamond and occupied an area of 162 sq. m. It was built on the coast on a high promontory, and its walls are composed of a mixture of pebbles and limestone. By analogy with some other Spanish FORTS, inside Fort Cagayancillo is the Church, surrounded by massive walls with a height of 12 meters and 3 meters thick. These walls protect the inhabitants of the Fort from attacks of pirates.

On the island of Palawan remained only three such fortified structures – except Cagayancillo, this Fort Isabel in Taytay town and the Fort of Cuyo in the same city.
