The lighthouse on the island of Batak Photo: lighthouse on the island of Batak

The lighthouse on the island of Bath is a historic landmark located off the coast of the city Laoag in the province of Northern Samar. The lighthouse marks the northeast extremity of the island of Samar and serves as an invaluable beacon for ships coming from the Pacific ocean through the Strait of San Bernardino is one of the busiest sea routes in the country – to Manila and other Philippine ports. This lighthouse is one of three major lighthouses, completely designed and built by the Americans in the beginning of American domination in the Philippines. The other two are the lighthouse on the island of Maniguin and the lighthouse on the promontory of Bolinao. Batisky lighthouse – a full copy of the lighthouse on the promontory of Bolinao: both have a height of 30, 8 meters and equipped with the same lighting. In 2008, the lighthouse of the island of Bath and the lighthouse of the island Capul were declared national heritage of the province of Northern Samar.

The construction of the lighthouse began in 1906 – the first was the temporary pier to deliver the materials here. As mentioned above, American engineers took a sample of the lighthouse on the promontory of Bolinao, built a year earlier. The design had a cylindrical form of reinforced concrete, next he built a house for the caretaker. The design was very simple – only cornices, door, window and balcony banisters to light the camera brightened up the monotony of the architecture. The height of the lighthouse, situated on the hill of Kulibaba, was 30 meters from the base to the focal plane. Because these places have frequent typhoons, the Americans designed the lighthouse thus, to withstand a wind speed up to 120 km per hour. The construction of the lighthouse was completed in 1908. Interesting detail – the lighthouse was equipped with the most modern lighting equipment, flashes were visible at a distance of 40 km.

In the early 2000-ies near the old building of the lighthouse was installed in the new tower, powered by solar batteries. However, in 2006 during super Typhoon "Milenyo" modern lighthouse collapsed, the first time for the centenary of the sinking of the coast in the darkness. Unfortunately, the building of the old lighthouse fell into disrepair and has already been in poor condition.
