The best and largest collection of graphics and beautiful painting marine painter I. K. A great artist was born 17.07.(29) 1817 in the beautiful city of Feodosia. In 1844 Petersburg Academy of arts, he was awarded the Grand title of academician. Just for life, it was created about six thousand different works of art.
The house in which the Museum was finally built in 1848 in the Italian Villa style. The decoration of this house served various sculptures of Greek gods. To this house in 1880 was added to the exhibition hall. Its area is 260 square meters. And in the same year he opened an art gallery.
The artist lived a long life in Feodosia and died 18.04.(2.05 in.) in 1900. Dying, he bequeathed to the gallery by the city. He was buried with full military honors. His grave is in the churchyard is a very ancient and beautiful Armenian Church.
In 1930 was a monument to I. K. Ayvazovskomu created before the revolution of 1917 the famous sculptor M. Ginsburg on funds collected by people. On the monument, which still stands at the entrance to the art gallery, the preserved inscription from residents: "Feodosia, Aivazovsky". The gallery in 1922, was declared a state Museum. When opening, the Museum exhibited only those pictures which the great artist in his will left his hometown. Gradually, from year to year, the collection of paintings has expanded.
In art gallery Aivazovsky passes before us the whole life and work of the great marine painter. Here many of us are acquainted with the history of the gallery, and you can also see the portraits of I. K. Aivazovsky and his family. Here are collected the paintings of his students and close to him on the works and spirit of the artists.
The gallery presents works by artists who worked in the Soviet times. It houses more than 500 pieces of works by M. latry - grandson of Ivan Aivazovsky. You can also see the works of V. Surikov, A. Faessler, A. Hansen, L. Lagorio, A. Kuindzhi, E. Magdesian, M. Voloshin, K. Bogaevsky and others.
