The ruins of the fortress of Tiraspol is one of the main historical attractions of the city. The fortress on the left Bank of the Dniester river was built in 1792-1793 G. as a defensive structure. The construction was supervised by commander A. V. Suvorov. The author of this work has been the architect F. P. de Volan.

After the Russo-Turkish war, according to Jassy peace Treaty, signed in December 1791, the boundary between the Turkish and the Russian possessions, was determined by the Dniester river.
