Imperial baths in Trier — monumental remains of the once huge late antique baths of view — a great Testament to the greatness of "Rome of the North" (so called Trier in those days). Structure with partly preserved walls with a height of 19 meters is one of the largest buildings of such appointment. In 1986 Imperial baths of Trier recognized as a cultural monument and is considered a world heritage under UNESCO protection.

The construction of the Imperial baths began in the Eastern part of Trier in the 3rd century and was completed by the Emperor Constantine. They never were used for other purposes, and were later rebuilt in the forum. Unused baths gradually destroyed, rebuilt inside to meet the needs of changing owners. After the decline of the era of Roman rule they were used as cavalry barracks. Later reliable high walls of the Imperial baths served as protection for the Frankish castle of the Duke, and in the early 12th century, became part of the city wall and its bastions.

Only in the early 20th century began extensive archaeological excavations on the territory of the Imperial baths of Trier. But the most ambitious scientific research, restoration and reconstruction were carried out after the Second World war under the supervision of a researcher of ancient architecture Arnold Chira. Currently on the territory of the Imperial baths in Trier is an archaeological Park, exhibitions are held under the open sky.
