The Government Palace (Palacio de La Generalitat) is located on the Central square of the virgin Mary, near the other principal buildings of the city such as the Basilica of the virgin Mary, the Cathedral of Valencia, and others. In former times it housed the Commission, whose responsibilities included overseeing the implementation of taxation of the inhabitants of Valencia. Some time later, it formed the representative authority of the city. Today the Government Palace is the seat of government of the Autonomous province of Valencia.
The building of the Government Palace is very ancient. Its construction was begun in 1421, under the guidance of the architect Pere Compte. The architecture of the Palace there is a mix of styles from Gothic and Renaissance. The building of the Palace, unfortunately, are not fully preserved, was destroyed by one of its towers. In the mid-20th century, a group of architects has developed and implemented a project on the reconstruction of the government Palace, the most recreating its original form.

The interiors of the Palace of the amazing variety and richness of decoration. Special attention deserves the "Golden hall" with an amazing painted ceiling, designed by ginés Linares in 1534, in the decoration of which was attended by many famous artists of the time. On the first floor is the magnificent Hall of the Cortes", with coffered ceiling and a tiled frieze.
The Palace of the Valencian government is open to visitors from Monday to Friday, and everyone can see it both outside and inside.
