Dominican Church of St. Jacek is a Church located in the centre of Warsaw. In 1603 the Dominicans took the decision to erect a Church in Warsaw. The construction of the Church in the Baroque style took many years, a wooden chapel and bell tower were built in 1638, and demanded another set of decorating. The Church was designed in the early Baroque style with Renaissance elements. The monastery buildings were completed later, in 1650.

In 1655, the Church was plundered and burnt by the Swedes. Bishop Wojciech Talijanski, which at that time was the Bishop of poznań, was consecrated the restored Church in 1661. A year later appeared in the Church tower, and in 1690 was one of the most important details – St. Dominic chapel, which was built by the famous architect tylman Gamersky in the Baroque style. Before the second attack of the Swedish army during the great Northern war in 1702, the monks managed to evacuate all the valuables from the Church.

The greatest flowering of the Church was in the 18th century. During this period, was assembled a unique collection of books, which, unfortunately, was destroyed. In 1864, the order of the Dominicans was abolished and the Church was transferred to the diocesan priests. A few years later the monastery was opened as a shelter for boys and boarding school.

During the Second world war the monastery was occupied by German field hospital, so during the bombing of the monastery was completely bombed and in ruins.

After the war began the restoration of the Church, which lasted until 1959. Many failed to recover, a huge part of past grandeur was hopelessly lost. However, the surviving values, among which is a Baroque chapel Kotovsky, created in the late 17th century. In the underground crypt miraculously preserved sarcophagi couple Kotovsk – founders of the temple.
