Indoor market is located in downtown Yambol. The market building was built in 1509-1510 years, at the moment it is the only preserved from the times of the Ottoman Empire building in the city. The market represents one of the most massive buildings in the town of Yambol.
Chronicler and traveller Evliya çelebi visited the city in 1667 and later wrote about the market place in the economic life and architecture of Yambol following: "it is solidly built covered market with four iron gates. Such recovery and so well decorated places not found in any other country. All valuable things in it are in abundance and sold for a pittance..."
The roof had a hemispherical dome and covered with lead sheet. In 1878 Bulgaria was liberated from the Turkish yoke. A few years after this momentous event lead sheathing was replaced by tiles, and later, 50 years later, made a tin roof.
During 1877-1878 (the period of the Russo-Turkish war) Yambol was one of the most important logistical points, where there were no Turks. During this time the indoor market used for storage of supplies.
Initially the market was established vaulted 12 stalls on the sides of the walls, the Vaults were decorated with painted yellow flowers with blue leaves. In these shops were located 32 merchant, their places were separated by partitions made of wood. In 1927 was partial internal restructuring and to the main market building were added for more room. Due to this, the place became a center of trade and crafts. In 1970-1973, he was carried out the restoration of the building in accordance with the original appearance of the market, also it was adapted for use in a modern city. Since 1972, the covered market Yambol declared as a cultural monument.
