Erebuni Museum in Yerevan is one of the most interesting museums in the city. Located on the hill of ARIN-Berd, the Museum was opened in 1968 in honor 2750-th anniversary of Foundation of Yerevan.
The name of the Museum has received on behalf of the city-fortress, the remains of which were assigned to the territory of the Museum. The Central facade of the Museum building is decorated with a huge bas-relief depicting the founder of Erebuni - king Argishti I. prior To the beginning of the first half of the twentieth century about Erebuni no one knew. And only in 1950, in the course of exploration on the ARIN-Berd hill, archaeologists have discovered a huge number of ancient urban structures, covered with a thick layer of soil. In the heart of this ancient city stood a powerful fortification. After some time, was found an inscription of king Argishti I of the construction of the city-fortress of Erebuni.
In the Erebuni Museum features many artifacts found during archaeological excavations on the citadel of Erebuni in 1950-1959, and the nearby Urartian city of Teishebaini, held in 1939-1958, on the hill of Karmir-blur. Among the exhibits of special interest to tourists are: samples cuneiform, print, edged weapons, armor, bronze bracelets, cornelian, glass, and agate items, beads, and coins of Caesar Augustus and two Milesian coins, pitcher and three silver rhyton. The most valuable exhibits of the Museum – twenty-three cuneiform tablets Urartian period.
The Museum collection also presents the gifts that he received the city of Yerevan in its 2750th anniversary.
