National history Museum of Armenia (original name - the State historical Museum of Armenia) is the Central square of Yerevan - Republic square. In the Museum for visitors offers a large variety of exhibits dedicated to the history and culture of Armenia.
The history Museum of Armenia was founded in 1921 together with a Picture gallery of Armenia. The Museum and art gallery are housed in the same building of the Museum complex.
The rich collection of artifacts stored in the Museum, covers a rather long period of time, starting from the Stone age to modern. Only here there are about 400 thousand items included in the different thematic exhibitions. The exhibition of the National history Museum of Armenia consists of several sections: archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic Department, the Department of historic architecture, and the Department of modern and contemporary history of the Republic.
The most extensive collection of exhibits of the archaeological Museum is housed in the Department and the Department of numismatics, their share on the basis of the total number of Museum exhibits approximately 35 % and 45 %, respectively. The Department of historical documents, which contains information about the architecture and the new history, is 12%. The smallest division of the Museum is the ethnographic Department of the objects which occupy about 8% of the total Museum values.
Especially popular in the Museum is a rich collection of bronze wares Dating from the II and III millennia BC. In addition, it houses artifacts of the unique States in the middle East – Urartu. This includes cuneiform and wall inscriptions, bronze statues, pottery with decorations, a collection of weapons with sculptures made of ivory, silver and gold. Another unique exhibition of National history Museum of Armenia is a collection of coins that were issued in the period from the III century BC up to the XIV century BC in different States that previously existed on the territory of modern Armenia.
