Blue mosque in Yerevan was built in 1766 by order of the Turkic Khan of Erivan khanate Huseynli-Khan Qajar.

Erivan khanate was founded in 1604 and was a part of Persia. The capital was the city of Erivan (now Yerevan), which was inhabited mainly by Turks. The city has many times passed from hand to hand from the Ottoman Turks to the Persians and then to the Russians. After the Russian army stormed the town in 1827, Yerevan became part of the Russian Empire.

In Soviet times, the Blue mosque was closed in 1931 it opened the Museum of the history and nature of Yerevan, and later the Museum was converted into a planetarium. According to urban legend, during the war, the mosque was saved because it was organized warehouse of ammunition, which, of course, the military kept as the Apple of the eye.

The mosque was restored in 1996 with funds donated by the Iranian government. Currently this is an active mosque, the spiritual and religious center of the Iranian community in Armenia.

Sky blue color famous mosques gives faience tiles and majolica, which is lined with the dome and the walls. Once the Blue mosque was decorated with four tall minarets, whose spires rose up into the sky at 25 meters. Now there was only one. Its height is 24 meters.

Now in the complex of the mosque is the prayer hall, madrasah, library and 28 pavilions. Outside is a pleasant courtyard, keeping cool on hot summer days. In this courtyard spread their branches old mulberry tree.
