The Anglican Cathedral in Stonetown was built in 1870. It was the first Anglican Church in the whole of Eastern Africa. The Cathedral was built on the ruins of the Central slave market of Zanzibar. With the construction of the Cathedral has an interesting history. When the construction was not yet completed, the chief architect went on Safari, leaving blacks working without supervision. Imagine his surprise when, on returning, he saw all eight pillars near the entrance to the temple is installed upside down! Stained glass near the columns devoted to the British who died after 1870 in the fight against the slavers after the prohibition of the slave trade. I can add description
