Ruins of the Jesuit monastery of Zhytomyr is preserved architectural monument of national importance. Historic building, built in 1724, is located in the Central part of the city, between the river Kamenka and the Castle hill, in the beginning of the street Chernyakhovsk, 12.
Jesuit juridica was founded after the Polish king August II of its privilege gave these lands to the Jesuits, who founded here a College and monastery. Juridico ― administrative-independent, isolated part of the city, which did not extend administrative and judicial powers of local government. Here were the relevant educational institutions, the city's first school, a residential building for students and teachers, as well as butchery, bakery, shops, a candle factory. In addition, juridica at their disposal had its own court. In 1789, the magistrate Zhitomir asked the Polish crown court that he ordered the Jesuits to pay taxes to the city budget, explaining that there is a slaughter and sell various items, all without any compensation to the city.
After some time the land began to rent out city dwellers. Juridica tightly and quickly, but chaotically built up. In 1792, after joining the Russian Empire Volyn lands individual rights of juridici have been cancelled. In 1893 Catherine II issued the decree about liquidation of the Jesuit monastery, and in buildings of Euridice to place provincial government offices.
During the military operations of the liberation from Nazi invaders most of the surviving buildings of Euridice were completely destroyed. In 1960-1980s in their place was built a complex of houses and buildings for a number of organizations. To date, of all old buildings in the monastery complex there are only a dilapidated two-storey building private building.
