The Cosmas Damian (Kosmodemjanovsky) monastery is 16 km from Alushta, between Babugan and Sinandigan in the Central basin of the Crimean state reserve. The monastery was founded around a medicinal spring Savluh-su ("healthy water"), where, according to legend, killed the Holy unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian.
The emergence of an Orthodox monastery in honor of saints Cosmas and Damian is connected with the name of the Archbishop of Kherson and Tauride innocent. In 1856, with the blessing of Archbishop Innokenty under the leadership of Abbot Macarius began construction of the cenoby.
In 1869 was built a wooden Church in the name of the Holy Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian. The monastery had 34 tithes and 1754 sq yards of land. Gradually, despite financial difficulties, the monastery began to grow. In 1878 the monastery twice visited the future Emperor Alexander III, and in 1880 he visited the monastery with his wife Maria Feodorovna. In 1899 male kin by decree of the St. Synod was transformed into a female cenobitic monastery. In 1913, the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty on the source of a chapel was built.
5 October 1923, Cosmas Damian monastery was liquidated. The monastery with all the lands came into the possession of Crymrosservice, and former nuns convent, signing a contract with the reserve, established an agricultural artel. In the Church of the Transfiguration, it was decided to organize a club, and the Cosmas-Damian Church - the natural history Museum. The monastery was restored to service on July 29, 1992
