Mountain of Piz Privat (Italian name – Pizzo of Pravat) is located in the Lepontine Alps on the border between the Swiss cantons of URI and Ticino. Its peak is at the altitude of 2876 meters above sea level, and from him to the foot are three distinct ridge – North-West, North-East and South.
North-West ridge connected with the mount Rotstock, and on the Northern slope of the famous glacier Sitzpinkler. Neighbors of the Piz Private mountains are Rotstock (its height is 2858 m) and Pizzo Centrale (3000 meters), and also separated the Passo della Sella peak Yubin (2776 meters above sea level). From the southern slope of the Piz Prewet the famous the St. Gotthard pass the distance by air is only 5 kilometers.
In mountaineering circles of Pizzo Privat is considered relatively easy to climb. The climb is usually done in one of three ranges. The first conqueror of the mountain peaks is considered the Englishman William Augustus Coolidge who climbed with conductor Christian Almera Jr. in 1892.
Currently, few groups are sent to conquer only the Piz Private. Normally climbing this mountain is only part of the route, the ongoing transition to the neighboring mountains. The most popular is the trail, originating at the mountains of Ospizio San Gottardo, located in the West. In this case, tourists straight to the height 2091 of sea level rise on the southern slope is a little less than three hours.
The greatest degree of difficulty has a route that passes by the North East ridge to this ascent requires not only extensive experience, but also special climbing equipment.
