Grand Palace is located on the beautiful square of Barcelona, the square of the King and is a complex consisting of several buildings. The Palace was built in the 11th century and for a long time existed, as the residence of the counts of Barcelona and later kings of Aragon.

In Large architectural complex of the Royal Palace includes the chapel of St. Agatha, which is a wooden altar of the three kings, founded in 1465 by the artist Jaime Hougue and recognized as a true masterpiece of Catalan Gothic architecture, the tower of King Martin, which is part of the Governor's Palace, attached to the Royal Grand Palace, and the Palace built in the 11th century.

The building of the Palace in 1359-1362, was attached to the Throne room (Salo de Tinell), was erected by Guillermo Carbonell. In this hall were held the meetings of the Holy Inquisition, and it was in this hall, king Ferdinand of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile, welcomed Christopher Columbus returned from America. The building of the Throne room (34 meters in length, 17 in width and 12 meters height) is the epitome of Catalan Gothic architecture of that time, and one of the clearest examples of the Gothic style in architecture in Europe.

Today in the premises of the Royal Grand Palace is a Museum Frederic Mares, as well as the Historical Museum of the city.

The doors of the Royal Palace are open to visitors all year round, so everyone can experience the history and admire the beauty and grandeur of the decoration of the Royal residence.
