Century city (Century City) can be considered a city within a city. It is located almost in the heart of Cape town, 10 km North-East from the city center, table mountain backdrop. On the territory of 250 hectares is a large number of office, residential, retail, sports and entertainment facilities, which meet all the requirements of modern society.

In the center of century city are its green lungs - the island of Intake. On 16 hectares of wetlands located in the reserve, rich in a large variety of bird species and native plants. Formerly known as Blouvlei, the island of Intake and its surrounding wetlands, consist of 8 hectares of the island, 8 acres of reconstructed wetlands, which are used for water purification, and 6 km of navigable channels connecting different parts of century city.

The work on the project century city began construction firm Monex Development in 1997 with an investment exceeding 10 billion ZAR, and currently continues its new owner - Rabie Property Group.

The first were built theme Park Ratanga junction shopping centre and Canal walk. Despite large expenditures during construction, to reduce attendance in the offseason and periodic closures during large conferences, the amusement Park Ratanga junction were profitable. The area of the Canal walk, too, had to increase from 125 000 sq m to 141 000 sq m in order to meet the demand. There were also concerns that the construction of century city will lead to decentralization of the business district of Cape town, but thanks to the improvements undertaken by the city authorities, this has not happened. Thus, century city became one of the commercial and business centre in the capital city of South Africa.

Canal walk, opened in 2000, has become the biggest Mall in Africa and the southern hemisphere. At the present time in its 141 000 square meters has more than 400 stores, 20 movie theatres, variety of restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as a large entertainment center.

Near shopping centre, Canal walk, in 2009 there were two 11-storey building. They are located 5-star hotel with 180 rooms and luxurious office center. Nearby are other hotels, shopping malls and multi-level housing for people of different incomes.

In 2009, according to the South African business magazine Finweek, century city was named the best modern residential area for middle-class people in South Africa.
