Basilica della Collegiata, also known as Santa Maria del Elemosina, is a Church in Catania, built in the style of the Sicilian Baroque. Work on its construction began after the devastating earthquake of 1693 and were not completed until 1768.

The creation of the project of the Church is attributed to Angelo Italy, who changed the position of the previous building destroyed by the disaster, so that the new Church was facing the street via Used (present via Etnea) in accordance with the plan to restore the city. The facade worked Stefano Ittar, is one of the best examples of Sicilian Baroque in Catania.

The Church has two orders, the first consists of six stone columns, topped by a balustrade. The second order has a large Central window, framed on the sides by four statues of saints Peter, Paul, Agatha and Apollonia. At the top of the building is the bell. To get to the Church you can climb the huge staircase, wrought iron railings which separate the space of the porch.

Inside the Basilica consists of a Central nave, two side aisles divided by pilasters, and three apses. The Central apse is somewhat elongated, it is the rectory. In the right aisle are the font and three altars with images of saints. In the left aisle you can see the chapel of the blessed sacrament with a marble altar. And the main altar of the Basilica is decorated with a marble balustrade and marble statue of the Madonna. Landmark interior decoration is the icon of the virgin Mary with the Child – a copy of a Byzantine icon, stored in the temple of the small Sicilian town of Biancavilla. Also worth noting is the wooden body of an 18th-century wooden choir. The arches of the Basilica and its dome frescoed by Giuseppe Joke.
