Old castle Brandys nad Labem is situated in the Central Bohemian region, not far from Prague. To get to the eponymous town is very simple: Prague is a regular bus service. The castle towers over the majestic river Elbe and its unusual décor, combining Renaissance and neo-Gothic features.
Second name Brandýs nad Labem – stará Boleslav. The name of the local castle in some guides and even indicated on the maps.
The city, and subsequently the castle appeared in these places because we had to control the strategically important crossing over the river Elbe. The date of Foundation of the city is of the XIII century, the castle was built 100 years later. The first owner of the castle was a rich nobleman Yang, who arrived here from Michałkowice. His task was the construction of a mighty fortress that could withstand a siege of the enemy troops.
A test of strength lock was successful. The fortress survived the attack of the army of John of Luxembourg. Lord of the Michałkowice really appreciated his residence and was not going to part with it. The castle remained the property of the family even after the death of the last male in the family. Fortress brandýs nad Labem dowry became the heiress of the deceased and her husband moved. However, the good situation of the castle could not fail to attract the attention of the Emperor. And in 1547 the castle became the possession of the Habsburgs and never loses the status of a Royal castle until 1918.
