The monastery Brigitta Annunciation and the Church – historical and architectural ensemble of XVII century. The monastery was founded in 1653 spouse - the great Lithuanian Marshal Krystof Veselovsky and his wife Alexandra in memory of his beloved, untimely death, foster daughter Griselda. Over time, the monastery has grown to occupy an entire block of Grodno, and the Church of the Annunciation was on a busy intersection of two major streets.
The monastic order of St. Brigid is one of the most mysterious emblems with very strict Charter. It was founded by Saint Bridget of Sweden, endowed with a rare gift of foresight. Initially the order was conceived as mixed: male and female. Men the monks had to travel and preach, bringing into the world the Word of God, the nuns were supposed to pray in the monastery, strictly observing the vow of seclusion. The last nun-Brigitte died in 1908. After Brigitte lived in the monastery sisters-the sisters of Nazareth. In 1950 the monastery was closed and transferred to a mental hospital. In 1990 the monastery was returned to the sisters nesaretnam. Now it is a functioning Catholic convent.
In addition to the Church built in a distinctive Baroque style, very different from traditional European Baroque canons, also preserved corner towers on the monastery walls and gate. The Church and the gate was decorated with a frieze, made in the technique of sgraffito.
In the courtyard of the monastery there is a unique wooden building of the XVIII century, built without a single metal nail, which served the nuns dormitory.
