New castle in Grodno was built in 1734-1751, Karl Friedrich Peppelman in the Rococo style. A new Royal Palace was built opposite the Old. This gorgeous Grodno residence was intended for the Polish king August III.

The Royal residence was modest on the outside and gorgeous inside. Here, arranged diplomatic receptions, Royal feasts and magnificent balls. In one part of the Palace was the Royal chambers, the other was the seat of the Sejm. After 1750, the chapel was built.

The Palace played an important historical role in it during the last Sejm in 1793, was signed the Treaty for the partition of Poland between Prussia and Russia. In 1795, king of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania Stanislaw August Poniatowski abdicated, and lived here for 2 years.

At the time, when Grodno was a part of Russian Empire, in the Palace there were barracks and a hospital. In the first year of the great Patriotic war the Palace almost completely burnt out as a result of falling bombs. In 1950, for the reconstruction of the New castle came from the Soviet architect Vladimir Varaskin. After restoration, the building acquired its classical form. Until 1990 there was the Grodno regional Committee of the PBC.

Currently the Old and New castles combined into a single Palace and Park complex and connected by a bridge over the river Neman. There is the exposition of the historical and archeological Museum and library named Kara. In recent times there has become a branch of the wedding Palace. Now Grodno, the couple can marry a king.
