The Palace of Falaknuma was built in 1884 by order of the Nawab-Ul-Omara, who at the time was Prime Minister of Hyderabad. Construction lasted 9 years, and cost the Nawab-Ul-Ularu a fortune, so on the advice of his wife, a lady Vicar ul Umra – he passes it in 1897 the property of the Nizam VI Mahbob Ali Pasha, who made this kind of guest centre for high-ranking officials, royals and honorary foreign delegations. But after left the Nizam of Hyderabad, the Palace has not been used.
Located in the old town, the building with the adjacent territory covers an area of about 13 hectares. The architecture of the Palace embodied the two styles of the Italian Renaissance and Tudor style, and the shape of the building resembles a Scorpion. Decoration of the Palace is made entirely of Italian white marble, the Windows are decorated with stained glass Windows, rooms full of columns, arches, carved friezes and frescoes, and the upper tier of Falaknuma studded elegant cupola domes. Number of rooms of the Palace reaches 220, and besides these, there are 22 large rooms.
Translated from the Urdu "falaknuma" means "mirror of heaven", and this name is not accidental. Dazzling white Palace with lots of decorative details looks light and airy as the clouds.
With 2000 in the Palace of Falaknuma has been restored, and since 2010 it has become one of the upscale hotels Taj Hotels and Resorts. The owners decided not to make significant changes neither in the architectural ensemble or in the interior. Therefore, all the originality and splendor of the "Mirror of heaven" were saved. Although it was purchased new furniture, added some decor, including expensive paintings and handmade luxury tapestries, but Falaknuma still remains a cultural and historical monument and an architectural masterpiece.
