Aquarium Sea world was founded on 2 October 1992, when the Governor of Jakarta, Mr. Viigo Attarine, laid the cornerstone to mark the start of building a house for undersea life. Today's Sea world is the largest aquarium in Southeast Asia. The building with adjoining buildings and territories covers an area of over three hectares, the main building is about 4, 5 thousand sq m of multiple exposures.
The aquarium concept is rooted in the mentality of the Maritime powers in the world that is made up more of water than of land. The mission of the aquarium consists of three components: education, recreation, and environmental protection.
