180 kilometers from Moscow is a small town of Kalyazin. As the history of many of the provincial cities of Russia, the history of this city is associated with the formation of the fortress-monastery. Gradually around the monastery arose and developed Sloboda, and later on opposite sides of the river appeared 2 villages which were merged in 1775 and was granted town status by order of the Empress Catherine II.
In 1940 Kalyazin was in a flood zone and has lost 2/3 part of the old town, its main cultural and historical value. Miraculously survived in the historical basis of the past, a unique archive of eternity, the pride of the local population – Kalyazin local history Museum.
Kalyazin local history Museum was founded in 1920. It is located at the former Epiphany Church, built in 1781. In 1990 opened a new exposition of the Museum.
The first section of the exhibition presents the climatic peculiarities of the region, flora and fauna. In the Department of archaeology, visitors can get acquainted with the settlements of primitive men in the territory Kalyazin district, with the emergence of the city of Cretin (1134 year). Here is exhibited the archaeological map of the area, the elements of ceramic vessels, stone tools, axes of stone, jewelry, arrowheads made of bone and stone.
Following exposure, the division tells the story of the formation and development of Holy Trinity monastery. Here, before the eyes of visitors experiencing the frescoes from the walls of the monastery of the XV century, you can learn about the technology of their creation, the development of crafts XV-XVII centuries, etc.
In the early seventeenth century Kalyazin has become the scene of a bitter struggle against foreign intervention. On these lands there was a battle of the Russian army under Prince Mikhail Skopin-Shuisky with the Polish army. The combat atmosphere of the time prevails in many subjects: the alarm bell, the weapon (halberd, axe, spears, chain armor, gun and kernels.
The construction of water Volochok systems produced in the era of Emperor Peter the Great, was the impetus for the development of trade and crafts. A sample of the Volga barge, ship cannon, anchor tell us about the development of shipping.
Tiles painted and silversmiths share local craftsmen. Very interesting samples of embroidery, fabrics and gold embroidery of the eighteenth century. All over the country were known Kalyazin lace. They willingly bought in both capitals.
Three exhibition sections: Kalyazin region during the great October revolution and Civil war 1917-1921", "Kalyazin region during the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945" and "Revival of the national economy in the years 1941-1961" tell us about the formation of the Soviet power in the city of Kalyazin, Vasily Ivanovich Shorin – hero Civil war, the development of agriculture, industry, culture, education and medicine in the 1930-ies, about kalasina who participated in the great Patriotic war, post-war development of Kalyazin, Kalyazin and district, its cultural traditions, etc.
The Museum exposition materials about Ivan Fedorovich Nicholas (1898-1979) and his activities. He was the organizer and until 1972 the Director of Kalyazin local history Museum. Did a great job on the collection and preservation of historical and artistic treasures from former estates, Macarius of Kalyazin monastery and others. Nicholas is the author of numerous articles on the history of the region in Central and local press reports, books devoted to the Museum, etc.
Regularly, the Museum organizes exhibitions, many of whom became members of major Russian and international exhibitions. Each year the Museum conducts scientific conferences, which are the employees of museums, major scientists of Russian Universities, historians.
