Karadag nature reserve is one of the youngest in the former Soviet Union. For its creation in 1979, there were good reasons: it was necessary to preserve the unique natural formation, remnants of the ancient volcanic massif, concealing a lot of interesting and varied information to geologists, biologists, zoologists. In the late 70's every summer camped here before ten thousand people and twice as many tourists visited this beautiful place briefly. From these visits it is highly affected flora and fauna, were ruthlessly exterminated the stock of minerals and semi-precious stones, scattered on the slopes and in the bays of the Kara-Dag. There was concern that in 20-30 years Kara-Dag will turn into a desert, will cease to be a natural landmark of world level.
The long break was very beneficial. Many species of flora and fauna recovered. Now the local flora includes more than 10 thousand species, including many endemic species - plants, nowhere else on the globe. 29 species of very rare plants listed in the Red book. The reserve is now home to 35 species of mammals, 130 species of birds, 15 species of reptiles, many rare insects.18 species of animals listed in the Red book. These figures are a huge scientific, educational and protective work of the scientists and staff of the reserve.
A few years ago there was a nature trail was opened, in which an entire season of research staff lead tours. Every year the increasing popularity of the Dolphinarium with trained dolphins and sea lions - real small circus on the water. Open aquarium, Museum of exotic animals, art gallery, gift of the artists who worked on Kara-Dag and left the memory of himself.
