Landhaus (the building of the government of the province of Upper Austria) was built in the Austrian city of Linz in 1571. This Palace with its beautiful marble portal of the facade is an architectural monument of the Renaissance. Every year it is visited by over 2 million tourists.

The history of Landhaus dates back to 1563, when the monastery of the monks of the world was purchased by the city Guild. In the 16th century the building became the center of economic and cultural life of the region. From 1574 to 1629, there was established the Protestant school, which was taught by famous scholars. In particular, for 14 years at the school conducted classes Johannes Kepler. In 1626 the peasants under the leadership of Stefan Fadinger tried to besiege the building, but to no avail. A few years later, the Counter-reformation triumphed, with the consequence that the school was closed.

In 1800 in the building there was a terrible fire, the building was severely damaged, destroyed a library, archives and art gallery. The building was rebuilt under the project of Ferdinand Mayer, new facades in the classical style. Reconstruction lasted two years and was completed in 1802.

Today the complex consists of three courtyards and gates, through which you can reach the promenade. In one of the courtyards, decorated with a colonnade, built-Fountain of the planets" in memory of Johann Kepler. Seven bronze figures of the fountain symbolize the seven planets, known in those days. Now in the courtyard hosts a summer classical music concerts in the open air.

Recently during the construction of underground Parking on the embankment were found remains of a medieval cemetery and the bridge in the Baroque style. The bridge was hidden in the earth, in place of the now defunct moat. This work was completed in early 2009.
