The monastery of St. Florian is one of the most famous and oldest monasteries in Austria. Located near Linz.

The monastery, named after St. Florian, was founded under the Carolingians, in 1071 monks Augustins. With 1686 in 1708 year, the monastery conducted a major renovation under the guidance of architect Carlo Antonio Carlone. For its unique Baroque view of the monastery of St. Florian and is considered the world's masterpieces.

After the death of Carlo Antonio Carlone his work was continued by Jakob Prandtauer. As a result, the monastery became the largest among the Baroque buildings in Upper Austria. The murals were created by Bartolomeo Altomonte.

The construction of the library was started only in the year 1744, by Johann Gottardo Haubergeon. Currently the collection includes about 130 thousand books, among them many old manuscripts and incunabula.

In January 1941 monastic property was confiscated by the Nazis, and all the monks expelled. From 1942, it housed the headquarters of the "Radio of the Third Reich" under the leadership of Heinrich Glasmeier. The monks were able to return only after the Second world war.

The Monastery Of St. Florian is also known for its boys ' choir, founded in 1071. This choir was part of the traditional monastic worship since its Foundation. It still exists, but is currently conducting successful concerts and international tours.

The monastery Church is decorated with antique stained glass Windows, columns of Salzburg pink marble, the pulpit and the altarpiece of the assumption of the virgin Mary. In the courtyard of the monastery there is the Eagle's well, built in 1603.
