Covered bridge – one of the recognizable symbols of Lovech, the most visited city landmark.
By the end of the nineteenth century there was a need to hold the bridge over the Osam. The townspeople turned to Nikola Ficheto, master, self-taught, with a request to build a covered bridge so that you can have shops on both sides of the structure. In 1874, the master began the construction, and by 1876 the bridge was ready.
Its width is 10 meters, length – 84 meters. The foundations of the bridge is made of stone, the rest of the bridge is wooden. Throughout the bridge architect were located more than 60 shops and workshops for merchants and artisans. Subsequently, this small market on the bridge served a large portion of the County villages and the residents of Lovech.
The bridge was decorated with sculpted figures – a lion, double headed eagle, a rod with a spherical tip and a female bust. Preserved only the figure of a lion.
In 1925, the bridge was completely destroyed. From 1927 to 1931 continued construction of the new design in place of the old. Covered bridge made of reinforced concrete was later reconstructed so that visually it is indistinguishable from its wooden predecessor.
