Historical Museum in Lovech is one of the most famous museums in the city. Start Museum in Lovech is referred to the February 10, 1895. Then, the local center-a library was opened the first exhibition, which was presented 570 exhibits donated by the residents of the city. As a result of hard work of several generations of Museum staff today in his collection there are more than 60 thousand items. Chronologically and thematically divided into four sections – "Archaeology", "History of Bulgaria XV-XIX centuries", "Ethnography", "New and modern history of Bulgaria". To all represented in the exhibition halls of the exhibits were kept in proper form, the Museum's laboratory for restoration and conservation.

The oldest materials in the section "Archaeology" refers to the prehistoric era. They were discovered near the banks of the Osum river in the caves of Tabasco, the Womb and Vasil Levski. About one-fifth of the most outstanding monuments of Thracian art in Bulgaria was found in the area of Lovech (Letnitsa, Radouane, Lukovit, Toros, Alexandrovo, etc.)

In the Fund of the Department "History of Bulgaria XV-Jhukov" houses artifacts (including written documents) that describes the peculiarities of economic, political and cultural life of the region during the middle ages and the Bulgarian Revival. Of particular value is a rich collection of ancient manuscripts and books.

In the years of struggle of the Bulgarian citizens for the freedom and independence of the town of Lovech became the revolutionary capital of the country. The events of that time for many years been one of the priority directions of the scientific research centre of the Historical Museum. A product of the staff of the center was opened in February 1954 the Vassil Levski.
