Church of the Epiphany in the famous village of celui is one of the monuments of temple architecture that speaks of the inexhaustible talent zaonezhskoe ancestors. The Church is more than 350 years, standing on the sandy shores povenetsky Bay and, as a beacon, visible from afar.
Historical events surrounding the development of the Church, occurred in Russia in the late 16th – early 17th centuries, which are associated with the names of Boris Godunov, the priest yermolai Gerasimov, Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich. In 1605 in the village celui Church was founded, called "Epiphany". In the same year the Church was rebuilt thanks to donations previously former nuns (nuns) Martha. Compared with the previous views, the Church acquired a more distinctive silhouette in the result of the add-in Church facilities and refectory in the form of the low of the octagon, which was crowned with a hipped roof coated with an enlarged bulbous cupola.
With regard to the considerable size of the refectory, it is caused by certain peculiarities relating to the social life of the former time. After the collapse of the Republic of Novgorod peasants gained some freedom that gave fertile ground for the provincial administration, the activation of which came in during the construction Celuisma of the temple. At this time, the special role of community centres served the Church refectory, in which the people gathered. For this reason, the refectory has uncharacteristically large room.
Known fact secondary reconstruction of the Church in the 18th century, when the Church acquired some constructive and architectural features. For example, the refectory was enlarged, appeared belfry-the belfry above the anteroom and were Rusticana door and window openings. This kind of change has greatly affected the artistic appearance of the temple, which lost its balance and rigor.
During the great Patriotic war a decision was made to disassemble the bell tower and the cupola, which could serve as a guide for long-range weapons of the enemy. But already in 1950-ies in the Church of the Epiphany began restoration work, which in some way changed the usual view of the Church: was enumerated porch, hipped cupola steel covered with aspen shingles, changed its shape and the lower edge of a small barreled altar coverings, carved fascia boards were restored.
The interior arrangement of the temple was built on the principle of the Suite. All premises of the Church form a rectangle, and the main walls are present only between the passageway and the refectory. While visiting the Church of the Epiphany comes the effect of the psychological impact on the presence, because the increase in emotional stress occurs as we move "into the light" - on the way from low and poorly lit passage to high and light the refectory. The lighted Church building has a height of 4, 15 meters, Central composite which performs the role of the iconostasis.
From the old iconostasis is preserved only traces of forest. It consisted of layers, which were separated by Tablada-shelves-bars, which were installed icons. Themselves table were beautifully painted with floral ornament, alternating with eight-petalled flowers on a light buff background; all the petals one were decorated with ochre and greens. The ornament is surrounded by a black line.
The greatest number of icons were transported in 1963 expedition of the Museum of fine arts, located in Karelia are stored here vaults. On the lower tier of the iconostasis are icons of the "local" line, which depicts the most revered saints in the Onega region; the second number represents the "Deesis" is a number represented by icons depicting angels and saints; the third "prophetic" range consisted of icons with the image at the bottom of the feasts, and in the upper part – of the prophets. We can say that in General, the iconostasis had canonical structure. Representatives of the first row has only two icons of the 17th century, with the second and third tiers have reached us by 12 icons each.
Destiny Church of the Epiphany carries a history alive, not only people and building art, but also the state of that time, making temple even more interesting to explore.
