Awash — the highest point (234 m above sea level) of Miskolc is a hill of volcanic origin, rising to 104 meters above the city. With the ancient Hungarian language, the name of the hill translates as "forbidden", as in the bowels of the hill were equipped with wine cellar, and grazing over them was a danger to them. According to the project of the Balint Szeghalmi in the middle of Prolegomena on the hill was awash built a wooden tower, architecture resembled the Church. In 1956 during the revolution it was destroyed by Soviet soldiers.

In 1963 on the top of the hill was installed 72-meter high TV tower, once a symbol of the city. From the observation deck of the TV tower offers a wonderful view of the city and its surroundings.

On the Northern part of the hill, near the Erzsebet square is the Gothic Protestant Cathedral awash XIII century with a bell tower — the oldest building of Miskolc (the other most ancient building is the castle Diester). The area excavated in the Sandstone near the wine cellars was named Kitty awash (Avas KIS) or "small awash".

In the southern part of the hill is awash largest residential complex in the city (awash-South) — a typical area of the socialist era with multi-storey prefabricated houses, which are home to one third of the population of the city.
