Orthodox St. Nicholas convent in Mogilev – a monument of architecture of XVIII century, was built in the Baroque style. Start of construction of the monastery dates back to the XVII century, when Archbishop of Kyiv Petro Mohyla received permission from king władysław IV on the erection of the Church of St. Nicholas in Mogilev. In 1637 was built a wooden Church, and in 1672 – stone Church of St. Nicholas, around which there was St. Nicholas convent.
During the Northern war, the monastery was plundered by the Swedes, and later other fans of barbarian raids. During one of the robberies was a fire, which burned all the wooden buildings of the monastery and was badly damaged stone.
In 1719 nuns of the convent moved to safer in those years Bartolomucci monastery, and within the walls of St. Nicholas monastery is organized monastery, which existed in Mogilev until 1754, after which the current was only the Cathedral of St. Nicholas.
In 1934, Soviet officials closed St. Nicholas Cathedral, utensils confiscated, and the iconostasis was destroyed. In the walls of the Cathedral staged a transit prison. The prison closed in 1941. After the war, the walls of the former Church gave the book Depository. Inept restoration and use of the temple misused even more destroyed it. Therefore, at the time of transmission of the Orthodox Church in 1989, the monastery was in a deplorable condition.
The monastery is now fully restored and refurbished. In 1996, it organized a Sisterhood of Faith, Hope, love and their mother Sophia. The monastery also runs a Sunday school and youth Church choir.
