Rocky Tipova monastery is one of the most famous and popular tourist attractions in Moldova, the largest cave monastery in the territory of Central Europe. It is located near the famous gorges landscape reserve Tipova.
The monastery was founded in the VI century on the banks of the Dniester river, near the village of Tipova. According to one legend, here secretly married the great ruler of Moldova Stefan cel Mare with his third wife Maria Voichita. Her Ghost still wanders among the caves of the monastery, and even can indicate hidden treasures, if not to be afraid to follow him to the moon. There is also another ancient legend that among these cliffs crashed mythological poet Orpheus, unable to withstand the separation from his beloved Eurydice, who was buried in one of the niches of the monastery. The remains of Orpheus lie behind stone walls, securely locked the tablet with seven holes.
The heyday of the Rock monastery Tipova hits for 1700 years. At the time, began large-scale restructuring and expansion of the monastery, the main Church is divided into several areas, which are separated from each other row of columns. Cliff, which cut cells, a Church with a bell tower, refectory – virtually impregnable, and served as a safe refuge for hermits.
During the Soviet period, Capowski the monastery was closed, but in 1974 it ruins took custody of the state. In 1994 the monastery was returned to the faithful, divine services were resumed.
