The white house Photo: White house

The white house is an architectural monument of the 17-18 century, who long time was the family residence of the Transylvanian princes Rakoczy, who left in the city's history a significant mark. Today the Palace is surrounded by later urban development, but previously it was an architectural dominant in this area.

Construction began in 67 of the 17th century, and for nearly a century, the Palace looked quite different than today: the one-story building was constructed of natural stone in Baroque style, square in plan, with an open gallery. A distinctive feature of the Palace is the white facade and was the cause of the popular "nicknames" White house. In 20-ies of the 18th century, the château became the Austrian Earls Schoenborn, after a serious renovation, the result of which was the current face of the structure. The reconstruction took place under the leadership of the Austrian architect Th.B. Neumann. During the work of doors acquired the U-shaped plan, second floor, natural stone has been supplemented by the brick, and to magnificent Baroque joined features easier Renaissance. It was then supplemented with the decoration and the main entrance in the form of fine portal in Baroque style and the open staircase.

Despite a thorough reconstruction, many elements of the original building have been preserved: cross vaults, decor moulding for Windows and interior, frame, stone window and door openings. The entrance to the residential area is preceded by a beautiful wrought-iron gates with a massive fence.
