The theater was founded V. A. Podobedova and a group of creative young people in August 1933. There was a theatre in the city of khibinogorsk (now the Kirov). At that time it was called the THAMES (theatre of young spectators). The debut took place with a fabulous performance of "Ivashka Batrachus". In 1938, the theatre acquired the status of a regional, and in 1949 moved to Murmansk. In 1972 the theatre was located in a new building, located on the street named after Sophia Perovskaya.
This theater is the oldest puppet theatre Murmansk. Not so long ago, namely in 2008, the theatre celebrated the seventy-five anniversary. In difficult times of war, the theatre served for the benefit of the victory over fascist invaders. During the war, was prepared more than a dozen concert programs, and played frontline concerts, there are about 1000. For their work during the war years the whole theater group was awarded medals "For defense of the Soviet Arctic".
Since moving to Murmansk theatre begins work with children of all ages. The repertoire of the theatre performances appear on the screen with the little stick puppets, and performances with playing in the "live" actors. There are new plays with dolls that are taller than a human and plays with meirowsky and glove puppets. In the early 1980s the theatre develops a model puppet.
The theatre actively participates in International theatre festivals. Over the past eight years, the theater has participated in 17 festivals held outside of the Murmansk region. The theater has won numerous diplomas, letters of appreciation and commendations, among them the international diploma "For the development of theatrical art" 2003, and in 2005 in the category "Children's theatre" Murmansk theatre was awarded the international diploma "Silver knight".
Since 1998 and today the Murmansk regional puppet theater directs Eugene V. Sukhanov. Currently, the theater company employs 62 people, among them 15 actors. Many of the actors working in the theater for over 25 years. They share their experience, craftsmanship and skill with young actors. Three masters of the scene have the title of Honored artist. The repertoire of the performance has 49 plays. On a scene of theatre brought to life by Russian folk tales, and legends of Northern peoples, tales of the world. Staged performances in plays by contemporary authors (E. Uspensky, A. Usacheva, M. Suponina), the works of the world's great storytellers: H. H. Andersen, J. Rodari, V. Hauff and many others. Every year the theatre arming 3-4 fresh performances.
The theatre has toured not only in the region but also in other regions of the Russian Federation and abroad. For example, in 2003 and 2006, the theatre has toured in Northern Norway. In October 2007, the theatre participated in the International festival of theatres of the countries of the Barents region, and in November 2007 presented the play "Gosling" at the festival of puppet theatres in Sweden.
The theatre organizes festivals, celebrations, theatrical performances and concert programs for all ages not only in Russia but also abroad. Conducted media tours of the theatre. Organizes cultural events together with other theatres and creative teams.
