Memorial "Thunder" is dedicated to the Polish Navy during the Second world war at the battle of Narvik in 1940 At the time, Poland was occupied by German troops. Polish sailors have taken risks and sacrificed their lives in the attempt to preserve the independence of Norway. However, Norway suffered the same fate as Poland.

Destroyer "Thunder" was the lead ship of the Polish Navy. The destroyer was commissioned in 1937. and was intended for the defense of the coast and escorting convoys.

During the hostilities "Thunder" became the most hated ship in the German Navy. However, in the bombing on may 4, 1940 the hull of the destroyer was divided into two parts, and the ship sank almost at the same moment, taking with them to the bottom 59 of the seafarers.
