A large village of Peristerona, which is located just over 30 kilometers West from the capital, Nicosia, is one of the most popular resorts of the island. The village is situated on the banks of the river, which is also called Peristerona, at the foot of the Troodos mountains, due to which there has been very favorable conditions for the cultivation of fruits, olives and grapes. It also is the main occupation of the locals.

Despite the relatively modest size in Peristerona there are a huge number of architectural and historical monuments, most of which is religious structures. What is remarkable: the mosque and the Orthodox Church there are literally a few metres from each other, which is a symbol of tolerance and friendliness of the local population. But the main attraction of the village is a large Orthodox Church, which was built in the X century in honor of saints Barnabas and Hilarion. It is located on the West Bank of the river and is a Prime example of Byzantine architecture. The main feature of this Church is its shape, a non-traditional churches of Cyprus – it is built in the form of a cross, also has five large domes. In addition, in this Church there are some old icons with the image of Jesus Christ that were written in the sixteenth century. Inside the temple walls are covered with exquisite paintings and murals.

In Peristerona, which is very popular among tourists, has a relatively well developed infrastructure, there are many bars and restaurants where you can try local cuisine, there are several hotels and villas where you can rent a home.
