Single-nave Church of St. John the Baptist was conceived in 1510 benefactors Pardubice – the gentlemen Pernstejnem who not only supervised the reconstruction of the local castle, transforming it into a welcoming residence of the family, but also did not forget about lying under the walls of the castle town. Thanks to Pernstejnem, in Pardubice't built one Church. Was no exception and the Church consecrated by the name of John the Baptist.
Construction lasted quite a long time: whether the funds were insufficient, or were other concerns. Finally, in 1563, the Church was open to all comers. Some improvements of the interior continued for another 7 years. Finished the construction of the Church local architect Vaclav Vsetecka. He also created the Church crypt, which in 1788 put the steeple.
For new Church purchased a plot that was part of the main Pardubice cemetery. For a long time near the Church burying the dead. To our days in perfect condition preserved some ancient tombs, Dating from the XVI-XVII centuries. Now they also became a local landmark and part of the local monuments of architecture and history.
Over time, the Church began to require repair, which was produced in 1881. Then, in the new century, the Church was again reconstructed. The last significant intervention in its appearance occurred in the years 1938-1940.
The interior of the Church is designed in the Baroque style.
The Church of St. John the Baptist is operating and open to the public during services and Church holidays.
